“Delia the Crone, in rituale, croons
a song of healing, a spell of magic,
of black lies and flames and blazing red moons,
of memories unpleasant and tragic,
of witches burning and paying a price
too dear for the crime of tending the sick;
how they suffered and died in sacrifice
from the great sin of priestly rhetoric;
now all the ev’ning she sings out their pain,
weeping new tears for the torture they bore,
whisp’ring, ‘Never, never, never again’;
and new generations are yet heartsore,
for all the sisters and brothers of old,
while priests continue to harp and to scold.”
